The Hard Mode option on the Speedrun Menu.

Description
For those who desire a real challenge.

Hard mode is a game mode that is unlocked after completing the main game. It can be accessed via the Speedrun Menu and is the first option you are presented with when starting a speedrun. As the name implies, this game mode is much more difficult than the main game, with increased enemies as well as newer, stronger variations of others.

Differences[]

In Hard mode, levels are given more enemies as well as new types of enemies that are not present in their normal mode equivalents. Some stages also are modified slightly terrain-wise, and traps and switches may be removed or added to certain stages so as to provide greater difficulty.

Factory Hideout[]

  • Large numbers of SWAT officers are now present throughout the level, along with Skinny Rickies and Strong Terries.
  • In the second room, there are additional laser traps as well as two bullet traps. Their movement has been scrambled in order to make it harder to bypass.
  • In the third room, there is an Automated Turret on the top floor. In addition, the lever which controls all lasers in the room has been removed.

Murdower Hotel[]

  • As with the Factory, there are increased enemies, including SWAT officers.
  • A larger amount of enemies emerge in the 5th room, where you kill the Skinny Ricky and Strong Terry that are chatting.
  • An automated turret is at the end of the final room, locked behind the second row of lasers.

Club Neon[]

  • As with all previous stages, there are more enemies in all rooms.
  • In this level the player is introduced to a new enemy, the Fu Ricky (unofficial placeholder name, real name is unknown), discernible by the red shirt he wears instead of the classic white. He is faster than the Skinny Ricky and will attempt to punch and karate chop the player. This ignores your invincibility frames when rolling.
  • In the room introducing the Fu Ricky, the smoke vent which can usually be hit to release smoke into the room has been removed.
  • There is a substantial amount of automated turrets in both the second-to-last room and the third-to-last room.

Prison[]

  • There are more enemies in the 2nd phase of the stage, making sneaking through impossible. Fu Rickys and SWAT officers are much more numerous.

Studio 51[]

  • As with all previous stages, there are more enemies.
  • In Quiet Hills, a majority of the items lying on the ground have been removed. In addition, the two gunmen at the balcony have been replaced with SWAT Gunslingers.
  • An extra automated turret is in place near the end of the first room.
